To launch our Code BLUE program, The Institute of Life and Learning, Inc. was awarded a grant from the VELA Education Fund for the Code BLUE Project. We worked in collaboration with Scoutlier, an education platform that facilitates experiential learning, especially for underrepresented student populations.
The Code BLUE Project is a health science pipeline program that prepares underrepresented minority students to pursue careers a physicians. The term "code blue" is a term used in hospitals to alert medical workers of an urgent patient situation that needs immediate attention. The need for underrepresented minority physicians is an urgent situation that needs immediate attention. As a result, the program is called Code BLUE. We are targeting middle school and high school students to engage in our Health Disparities Challenge.
Our next steps in this experiential program is to provide prepare our learners to pursue careers as physicians through hands-on an immersive experiences. We will launch a Code BLUE Camp in June 2024 for our learners to engage in preparation for a career as a physician.
